Can I appeal the categories/hours awarded to an event/course/training I submitted for accreditation?

Answer:

Yes, you can appeal the categories or CPD hours awarded to an event, course, or training you submitted for accreditation—but only under specific circumstances.

Grounds for Appeal

According to the LIA CPD Guidelines, appeals are accepted only if there is:

  1. A significant irregularity in how the CPD regulations were applied.
  2. Extenuating circumstances, such as serious, unforeseen events (e.g. illness or personal/family trauma), that affected your ability to meet CPD requirements or that may have impacted how your submission was reviewed.

You must provide supporting documentation, such as medical certificates, if you are appealing under extenuating circumstances.

Appeals That Will Not Be Accepted

  • Disagreements with the CPD scheme’s rules (e.g., the limits on hours per course or what qualifies as a CPD activity).
  • Appeals not based on the official grounds listed above.

How to Submit an Appeal

You must:

  • Submit your appeal in writing.
  • Clearly outline the grounds for your appeal.
  • Include all relevant evidence or supporting documents.

Send your appeal to the Appeals Officer at the LIA Member Services team:
📧 cpd@lia.ie

Incomplete appeals may be dismissed, and if necessary, you'll be asked to resubmit.

Appeals Process

  • Stage 1: Your appeal is reviewed by the CPD Lead at LIA, who will issue a written decision.
  • Stage 2: If you’re not satisfied, you can escalate the appeal to the QFA Board, who may request additional information or arrange an oral hearing (with 21 days’ notice).

🔒 Note: Submitting false or misleading appeals may result in disciplinary action.
