CPD Annual Audit - What You Need to Know
What is the CPD Annual Audit?
Each year, LIA carries out a CPD Compliance Audit by selecting a random sample of members’ CPD Annual Returns.
The purpose of the audit is to confirm that the CPD hours recorded by members meet the requirements of the LIA CPD Scheme.
The audit relates to CPD activities completed in the previous CPD year.
Why have I been selected for audit?
Members are selected at random, and selection in a previous year does not automatically exclude a member from being audited again.
Please note:
-
LIA CPD audits take place annually
-
Members may be audited more than once
-
Central Bank CPD audits are separate and do not replace an LIA audit.
- Members who completed all CPD with LIA may also be randomly selected for audit.
What documentation do I need to provide?
Members selected for audit must provide supporting documentation for all non-LIA CPD events listed on their Annual Return.
Accepted documentation:
-
Signed attendance sheet
-
Certificate of attendance
-
Certificate of completion / computer printout
-
Confirmation email of attendance from employer or presenter
-
Signed CPD Personal Record Sheet (signed by employer)
Documentation that is not accepted:
-
Invitations to events
-
Emails confirming bookings
-
Copies of presentations, slides, or booklets
-
Diary notes
-
Outlook calendar notifications
I Have lost my documentation, what should I do?
Please contact the event organiser for confirmation. Any hours that cannot be verified will be lost.
Do I need documentation for CPD completed with LIA?
No.
Documentation is not required for CPD completed directly with LIA.
Members who completed all CPD with LIA may still be selected for audit, but will be passed automatically once this is confirmed.
My employer signs off my CPD — what does that mean?
If your employer signs off your CPD:
-
You do not need to provide individual CPD certificates
-
You must still complete and submit your CPD Annual Return
-
The CPD form must be completed and signed by both you and your employer
What happens after the audit, if your documentation is satisfactory:
-
Your audit will be passed
-
You will receive confirmation by email
What happens after the audit, if documentation is incomplete or duplicated:
-
CPD hours may be removed
-
Any shortfall will carry forward to the following year
-
A five-year shortfall warning may apply where relevant
What is considered non-compliance?
A breach of the CPD Scheme may include:
-
Failure to submit a CPD Annual Return
-
Failure to cooperate with a CPD audit
-
Failure to pay professional body fees
This may result in the loss of LIA designation(s).
Exceptional circumstances
If you are unable to complete the audit due to:
-
Retirement
-
Illness
-
Extended leave
-
Other exceptional circumstances
Please reply directly to your audit email or contact cpd@lia.ie, outlining your situation.
