How can a course/webinar/training get accredited for CPD hours?

To have a course, webinar, or training accredited for CPD hours with LIA, the event must meet certain criteria and go through a formal accreditation process. This ensures the content aligns with the Minimum Competency Code (MCC) and is relevant to the designation(s) of attendees.

Steps to Get a Course/Webinar/Training Accredited for CPD

Submit an Accreditation Request

The event provider (or an individual) must complete the CPD Accreditation Request Form:

  1. What Information Is Needed

The request form will typically require:

  • Event/course title
  • Date and duration
  • Learning objectives
  • Presenter qualifications
  • Target audience
  • Format (live, online, webinar, etc.)
  • Proof of testing or interaction (for online courses)
  • Proposed MCC category(ies)
  • Suggested CPD hours
LIA Review Process

LIA’s CPD team will:

  • Assess whether the event content is relevant to retail financial advice or trustee responsibilities.
  • Determine appropriate CPD hours and MCC category accreditation.
  • Approve or request further information if necessary.
Once Approved
  • LIA will issue a CPD accreditation code, confirm the number of CPD hours, and indicate the relevant categories.
  • The provider must inform attendees of these details during or after the event.
  • The code is valid for the current CPD year and must be re-applied for annually if repeated.

Important Criteria

To qualify for CPD accreditation:

  • Content must be directly related to advising/selling retail financial products (MCC-aligned).
  • For online courses:
    • Must include testing or interactive elements.
    • Must be clearly structured and time-measured.
  • CPD duration must be a minimum of 30 minutes.

If you attended an event and want it to count toward your CPD, but it’s not accredited, ask the provider to complete the above process or contact LIA CPD Department.
