What is the difference between online courses and CPD events?

Members sometimes refer to online CPD events as “courses”, but these are actually different types of learning on LIA Elevate.

Understanding the difference can help you choose the correct CPD activity.

Online Courses (Programmes / Modules)

Online courses are typically:

  • longer learning programmes
  • made up of multiple modules
  • several hours in duration
  • not always linked to a specific CPD category

Courses do not always correspond directly to CPD hours.

Online CPD Events (Webinars / On-Demand Sessions)

CPD events are designed specifically for CPD compliance and are typically:

  • 1 hour in duration
  • linked to specific CPD categories
  • delivered live and later available on-demand

These events are the best option if you need 1 CPD hour in a specific category.

To access them:

  1. Log in to the LIA Member Area
  2. Navigate to LIA Elevate in the top banner
