Your membership renewal is changing

From 1 January 2028, all LIA members will renew their membership on the same date every year, 1 January.

To bring everyone onto the new January cycle, your next membership fee invoice will be pro-rated to cover the number of months from your current renewal date to 31 December 2027.

You’ll pay once for this bridging period and then join the new annual renewal cycle from 1 January 2028. You won’t pay twice for any month.

This page explains what’s changing, the key dates and how your next membership fee will be calculated.

Why is my renewal changing?

Moving everyone to the same renewal date of 1 January means one clear membership renewal period each year, aligned with the CPD year.

From your next renewal, you’ll pay through our new member portal. You’ll be able to pay by card, save a card for automatic future renewals, set up another payment method, view/download invoices and view your recent payment history.

For now, everything else about your membership, including your CPD record and designations, continues as it does today. We’ll keep you updated as the new membership platform continues to roll out in stages over the coming months and new features become available.

How will my next membership fee invoice be calculated?

Your next membership fee invoice will be pro-rated based on the number of months from your current renewal date to 31 December 2027.

  • If you are due to renew in November or December 2026, your next membership period and invoice will cover 13 or 14 months.

  • If you are due to renew in January 2027, it will cover the usual 12 months.

  • If you are due to renew between February and October 2027, it will cover fewer than 12 months so the amount you pay will be less than the annual membership rate.

You are only charged for the months in your 'bridging' period. You won’t be charged again for any months you have already paid for.

An example

If you’re an Associate member, your annual membership fee is €165 (as per table below). If your membership currently renews on 1 May, your next invoice will cover 1 May to 31 December 2027.

That is eight months at €13.75 per month: 8 months × €13.75 = €110

From 1 January 2028, you will then renew for the full calendar year along with all other LIA members and be invoiced for the full annual membership fee.

Annual membership fees for 2027

Member Type
2027 Annual Membership Fee Per Month
2027 Associate Membership Fee  €165 €13.75

Questions you may have

My renewal is not until next summer. Why am I being invoiced in December?

If your current renewal date falls between November and June, your invoice will be issued on 1 December 2026 as part of the move to the new January renewal cycle.
The amount you pay will be based only on the number of months from your current renewal date to 31 December 2027. You won’t pay twice for any month.

My employer pays for my membership. What do I need to do?

There’s nothing you need to do. Your organisation’s LIA contact will confirm which employees the company will pay LIA membership for, and we’ll work directly with them to manage the transition.

If your employer decides not to pay for your membership in future, we’ll contact you directly and explain what you need to do to continue your LIA membership yourself.

I pay by Direct Debit. Does anything change?

Your Direct Debit is moving to a new collector (GoCardless), and the way your membership payment is collected will change as we move to the new annual renewal cycle. We’ll give you full details before your next payment is collected, including the amount and collection date.

Can I spread the payment?

No. As has always been the case, your invoice is payable in full, by card through the portal or by a single Direct Debit collection.

My renewal date is in September or October 2026. Which cycle applies to me?

You will have received your renewal invoice a little earlier than usual this autumn, because our current invoicing system closed on 30 September. You should pay that as normal. Your next invoice will be issued on 1 June 2027 and will cover the period from your next renewal date to 31 December 2027. We will write to you in May 2027 with the detail.

Will my designations or CPD record be affected?

No. For now, the new portal is only for paying your membership. Your designations and CPD record are unaffected, and you can continue to view/manage them on the current portal. Over the coming months, these will also be migrated onto the new portal, but we will write to you in advance of that.

I let my membership lapse. Can I rejoin?

Yes. Please contact the membership team on membership@lia.ie and they will arrange it with you.

Who do I contact if my invoice looks wrong?

Email the membership team on membership@lia.ie with your membership number and the invoice number, and we will check it.
